A simple Google search for the term "Disney" will produce millions of results. This means that there are millions of Web sites which are either directly or indirectly focused on the Walt Disney Corporation. From a public relations standpoint, monitoring every one of these sites would be virtually impossible. But it is important to review what some of the more prominently visited sites have posted.
The wikipedia.org entry for Disney has a lot of detailed information about the company, as well as a section on criticisms about the organization. The criticisms all had links to entries within wikipedia where the complaints were discussed in greater detail. Some of the complaints listed were fairly serious, such as labor disputes, wage issues, and critcism on Disney's college internship program. These are all topics which should be dealt with in a proactive manner. Instead of running away from these issues, the corporation should acknowledge their existence and point out what is being done to remedy the problems.
There is one blog, called The Disney Blog, which posts relevant stories, positive and negative, about Disney, it's programming, and it's administration. This blog strives to be a neutral site where news in general about Disney can be aired, and on the whole it accomplishes this goal. This blog can be accessed at: www.thedisneyblog.com.
Disney consumers and visitors to the theme parks also create blogs. There are sites dealing with Disney merchandise, movies, and the parks in general. These sites should be looked at in order to make sure factual information is being relayed to the public. http://disney.families.com/blog/ is a site designed for families who want to visit the theme park. There are also links to other aspects of the Disney corporation such as money, coupons, and product reviews. This is a heavily visited site, therefore it should be steadily monitored to ensure factual content.
